the widow of Floribert Chebeya leaves Kinshasa without
After a two-week stay in Kinshasa, Annie Chebeya left the capital of Congo on Friday, July 9th. The widow of the former executive director of the Voice of the Voiceless for Human Rights, murdered on June 1, 2010, had returned to the country after eleven years in exile in Canada.
During her stay in Kinshaha, Annie Chebeya received a promise from the authorities that the trial of the murder in early June 2010 against her husband Floribert and her co-worker Fidèle Bazana would be held soon. Among the personalities that Annie Chebeya met during her stay are the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde and Minister of Justice Rose Kiese. No direct contact, on the other hand, took place with the new leaders of the Voices of the Voiceless (VSV). Annie Chebeya was supervised by her lawyers and relied on RFI’s microphone.
“The president said it is up to justice to do his job properly. As a guarantor, he will follow how it will develop. So he wants this to be done correctly and according to the law because he promises a rule. He really wants the law and justice to be fair and especially that the murderers of Floribert will not go unpunished. So he really wants these people to be arrested, tried and punished properly ”.
Rfi: Have you met those who remained responsible for VSV?
“Unfortunately not. Since 2012, the president of Voix des Sans Voix (VSV) – who had replaced Floribert Chebeya – called me to tell him that he withdrew from the case. Even if I call them, even if I write to them, they answer Today I came to Congo. They never saw me. We set up mini-meetings so I could meet them, but they left as soon as they knew I would be there. So I go with a lot of sadness. But what really makes me evil is that they changed the status of the voiceless. They removed, from the story of Voix des Sans-Voix, the founder Floribert.I have decided.I want to sue them so that the name “Voices of the Voiceless” is removed because it is my husband’s identity “It’s his cachet. He created it.”
As for the murders of Floribert Chebeya and Fidèle Bazana, three police officers in exile admitted RFI. Two others: the commander of the Simba battalion, Christian Kenga Kenga and his right hand man, Jacques Mugabo, are now arrested. Suspected of ordering the crime, the former police inspector, General John Numbi, fled. He is wanted for association of criminals and desertion abroad. The file is already before the Supreme Military Court, which must state the date of the trial again.
