relative majority of the ruling party

The preliminary results of the elections on 23 May 2021 in the Central African Republic were announced on Sunday evening in the Central African Republic by the National Election Authority. A total of 50 places were at stake. President Touadéra’s party is consolidating its relative majority, but is still far from an absolute majority.

According to the results announced on Sunday night, the United Hearts Movement of Faustin-Archange Touadéra received 36 seats at this stage. in the new church. This is eleven more than the previous election, but far from the 71 seats required to have an absolute majority.

Observation to qualify

A result that, however, deserves to be qualified. The new assembly is characterized by a large number of deputies who are elected under the label independently, but a not insignificant proportion of them remain from the MCU or its allies. The Presidential Party has also not had any problems installing relatives of the head of state in key positions during the election of the parish presidium, which has already taken place.

On the side of the opposition, which had presented itself in scattered order, we note the election of Karim Meckassaou in the third district of Bangui. He joined the half-cycle of other already elected opposition figures: Anicet-Georges Dologuélé, Martin Ziguélé and Aurélien Simplice Zingas. All four are subject to a request for the waiver of parliamentary immunity. Mahamat Kamoun and Nicolas Tiangaye, on the other hand, were fired.

Six constituencies still in exception

This election process is not over yet. Six rides are still on the ballot. A new round to complete the church must therefore be organized. As for the preliminary results announced last night, they still need to be validated by the Constitutional Court.
