Covid-19 in Gabon: easing of measures

In Gabon, the curfew from 18.00, which has been in force since February, will be postponed to prevent the spread of Covid-19, from 21:00. The announcement was made on the evening of Friday, May 28, by President Ali Bongo Ondimba in a statement to the nation.

Ali Bongo Ondimba claims that he has led to several barrier measures as a result of the reduction in the degree of contamination of Covid-19, which amounts to 50 new cases per day and Gabonese’s connection to the vaccination program against the virus. Comments collected by our correspondent in Libreville, Yves Laurent Goma

“The efforts and sacrifices we have made collectively have yielded concrete results,” says Ali Bongo Ondimba. It is the victory of an entire people. I also decided to ease several measures taken in connection with the state of health. First of all, the expiration of the curfew is postponed to 21:00 to allow us to resume certain economic or social activities that have become sluggish. As for restaurants and bars, they can open until 20:30. Access to them will be subject to the presentation of a PCR test with a validity period of 14 days or a Covid-19 vaccination card. However, on arrival in Gabon, international travelers will perform a PCR test and observe a 24-hour quarantine at the on-site hotel facilities until a negative PCR test ”.
