In Benin, the waste management and sanitation company is asking households that use the waste collection service to now get approved rubbish bins to facilitate their work. The measure was announced on Tuesday by the company’s director, it is commented on a lot by the Beniner.

as reported from Cotonou, Jean-Luc Aplogan

The necessary bins are the two-wheeled bins with a capacity of 120 liters. “When you take ten households, hardly one household has a suitable dustbin. Often these are cut plastics, baskets, cartons. This waste is a nuisance, ”explains Valéry Lawson, Head of Grand Nokoué Waste and Sanitation Company (SGDS-GN).

Massive investments

The project is very ambitious, President Patrice Talon dedicates a massive investment of tens of billions of CFA francs to the one with the latest generation of equipment.

Since its inception about a year ago, 450,000 households have benefited from the garbage collection service for free in five major cities. The floor price of the approved wastebasket costs 28,000 CFA francs (approximately 43 euros) on the market, the state has planned to sell some to 25,000 CFA francs (38 euros).

Tolerance?

Do you need to have your trash can to take advantage of the garbage collection? Currently, SGDS explains, you need an approved union or not. There is tolerance, no sanctions at this time either.

The price of the trash can be discussed because it is a bit expensive for low-income households. The Consumer Survival Association is appealing for a reduction in the sales price.
