The Dror 1 satellite was launched into orbit on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, as confirmed by both Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

The ministry described the Dror 1 as a “$200 million ‘smartphone in space’ that will enhance Israel’s strategic and civilian communications for the next 15 years.” This innovative satellite underscores Israel’s commitment to leveraging technology for national progress.

In a remarkable display, video footage captured the two-stage reusable rocket lifting off into the night sky. SpaceX noted that the launch took place at 1:04 AM in Florida, which translates to 6:04 AM Irish time.

Engineered by Israel Aerospace Industries, this cutting-edge “$200M smartphone in space” is set to empower Israel’s strategic and civilian communications for an impressive span of 15 years.

“This launch is not just a technical achievement but a bold leap forward for our communications infrastructure,” emphasized the ministry in a recent tweet.

As a point of historical reference, it’s worth noting that in September 2016, an unmanned Falcon 9 experienced an explosion during a test in Florida, resulting in the loss of Israel’s Amos-6 communications satellite, valued between $200 million and $300 million.
