Barawe, Somalia — African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) troops and Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) soldiers mounted a joint security patrol in the Barawe Sub-Sector on Saturday, aiming to tighten control, reassure residents and build on recent gains against militants.
The operation was led by AUSSOM Battle Group 45 Commander Col. Justus Musenene alongside SNAF 66 Brigade Commander Col. Abdurahman Elmi. The two commanders said the patrol’s purpose was to disrupt Al-Shabaab activity and boost confidence in security measures across the area.
Col. Musenene stressed the need for close coordination among AUSSOM, the Somali National Armed Forces and local communities to preserve stability. He reiterated AUSSOM’s pledge to mentor and support Somali forces under the mission’s mandate while fostering cooperation with residents on the ground.
Col. Elmi urged Barawe inhabitants to keep supplying timely information to security agencies and singled out AUSSOM personnel for their professionalism, dedication and ongoing assistance in operations against Al-Shabaab. Residents greeted the joint patrol positively and committed to backing peace and security efforts. Commanders said similar patrols will continue across the Barawe Sub-Sector to maintain pressure on Al-Shabaab, enhance public safety and create safer conditions for communities and development.
