North Western State of Somalia’s President Prohibits the Use of Government Resources for Election Campaigns

Hargeisa (AX) – In an assertive move, North Western State of Somalia’s President Muse Bihi Abdi has laid down a firm rule banning the use of public assets, government workers, and military forces in the run-up to the November 13 presidential election.

Announced late Friday, the directive calls on government execs to ensure political organizations receive a fair shot at utilizing governmental resources and accessing the media during election season.

The spotlight now turns to the Minister of Information, Awareness, and Culture, who must ensure that both parties and political groups get a fair shake on state broadcasts. Furthermore, the Minister of Internal Affairs has his hands full, tasked with equitable allocation of campaign venues and safeguarding the peace at election gatherings.

“No public assets or government staff, not even the military, shall be involved in electioneering activities,” declared the decree.

With the official campaign period starting, the political climate is heating up. A couple of deputy ministers recently jumped ship from the ruling Kulmiye Party to back the rival camp led by Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro). Their move signals brewing changes and a hunger for fresh leadership.
