Tammy Abraham publishes emotional farewell video

Tammy Abraham said playing for Chelsea was something he ‘always dreamed of as a child’ when the striker sent an emotional farewell message to the Blues after coming to Roma.

After joining Chelsea’s academy ranks long back in 2004, Abraham scored 30 goals in two years as his boys’ club’s number nine. But the 23-year-old’s future became uncertain halfway through last season and his fate was sealed by Romelu Lukaku returning £ 97.5 million.

He has now switched £ 34 million to Roma, where boss Jose Mourinho has already praised the player’s ambition to prove himself in a new environment.

Chelsea have been a part of Abraham’s life for 17 years and a video montage he posted on social media has underlined how much the club means to him.

“Something I’ve always dreamed of as a child, you know, going to Stamford Bridge and watching the games as a little boy,” were the words from Abraham’s mouth when Adele’s single Hometown Glory began playing, enough to get hairs on your neck standing up.

“It’s always a dream for them to sing your name and actually be out there,” the player continued as the highlights of his Chelsea career unfolded.

In the caption next to the video, Abraham continued: “It’s time to say goodbye to a club that means so much to me and my family. From playing at the academy as a youngster from Peckham to winning the Champions League all these years later …

“I want to thank my teammates, The Academy, all the staff and of course the Chelsea fans who have always supported me.

“Would not be who I am today without you. Bring more trophies home boys! ”
