Former Everton midfielder Lee Carsley will replace Aidy Boothroyd as England’s head coach for 21 years.
During the 21-year period has been without a permanent manager since April, after a bad performance at the European Championships led to Boothroyd resigning. This is an important role, and there has been a lot of speculation about who the next boss would be.
According to The Mail, it is set for former Everton opponent Carsley, who is taking another step forward in his promising coaching career.

Even though it’s only 47, Carsley has an extensive coaching resume under his belt. He started taking his coaching staff while still playing for Everton in 2008 and was appointed head coach of Coventrys for 18 years after retiring in 2011.
He has held various academy roles with Coventry, Manchester City and Brentford, while at the same time being in the lead from time to time – he was briefly Brentford’s permanent head coach before the appointment of Dean Smith.
Carsley has also worked extensively in England and is highly ranked by Gareth Southgate. He is currently in charge of the 20s, but looks to be promoted less than a year after taking on that role.
The role of England Under-21 manager does not come easily. The FA tends to choose carefully, given that there is a realistic chance that whoever they appoint will end up in the lead for the first team at some point.
That was what gave Southgate its start, stepped in on a temporary basis after Sam Allardyce’s resignation and did enough to earn the job on a permanent basis. He has since led England to a World Cup semi-final and final of Euro 2020 – two of the best major tournaments in their history.
As a player, Carsley made 548 appearances for Everton, Derby, Blackburn, Coventry and Birmingham and was a fixture in the Premier League throughout the early 2000s.
