Premier League transfer news: Sabitzer available for 20 million euros

RB Leipzig’s captain Marcel Sabitzer may be available for as little as € 20 million this summer, with talks of a new contract in a dead end as he enters the final 12 months of his deal.

Sabitzer has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with either Arsenal or Tottenham seemingly his most likely destination in England.

The interest of the North London clubs will be further aroused by the news that the 27-year-old will be allowed to leave the Red Bull Arena for just £ 17 million, or maybe even less.

According to Bild, Leipzig will let their skipper move on to pastures if they receive an offer in that region in the coming weeks, while Borussia Dortmund are set to rival Arsenal, Tottenham and Milan – who have been declared freers elsewhere – for the midfielder’s signature. .

Sabitzer has a € 50m start-up clause written in his contract, but it seems that Leipzig have decided to drastically reduce their asking price rather than lose him for free when his contract expires at the end of 2021/22.

The Austrian international has spent six years in East Germany, scoring 52 goals and adding 42 more during his time with Die Roten Bullen.

Although Bild’s report does not mention Arsenal, the Gunners were given an interest in the player by the Gazzetta dello Sport already in June (per Sport Witness). His arrival would be part of a set of teams adopted by boss Mikel Arteta, who has as much as £ 250 million to spend, as revealed by 90 Minutes last month.

Tottenham’s interest is more long-lasting, with the versatile midfielder spied on as a possible replacement for Dele Alli in December 2020, when the Englishman was far out in favor with the then manager Jose Mourinho. But with the Spurs focusing on strengthening their defense, it is unlikely they will engage in a transition game for a more attacking player.

However, Dortmund have plenty of money to spend after the sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United for 73 million pounds. It remains to be seen whether Sabitzer prefers to stay in the Bundesliga or seek a new challenge abroad.
