Nuno wants Conor Coady to sign

Tottenham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has asked his new club to reunite him with Wolves center-back Conor Coady this summer, and believes the England international is an ideal signing.

Spurs want to sign at least one new midfielder this summer, but preferably two, and have already looked at Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, Lyons’ Joachim Andersen and Burnley’s James Tarkowski in that regard.

But Nuno worked with Coady for four years at Molineux and grew very close with the former Liverpool academy player. Together they went up in the Premier League 2018 and seventh place in a row in 2019 and 2020.

Coady, who is currently part of England’s squad for Euro 2020, signed a new long-term contract with Wolves less than a year ago and 90min understands that the defender is more than happy with Molineux. But the possibility of taking a step up to join one of the Premier League’s big six clubs would be difficult for him to reject.

The Wolves hierarchy has already informed Nuno’s replacement, Bruno Lage, that the club is unable to turn down any significant offers to its star players this summer – which includes Coady along with Ruben Neves and Adama Traore.

Neves has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal and would be sold if a asking price in excess of £ 30 million is reached, while Traore continues to attract interest from Leeds.

Chinese owner Fosun is restructuring its commitment and engagement with Wolves and it will require player sales to raise a transfer budget to provide Lage with new faces in the squad.

The club’s financial records show that Wolves made pre-tax losses of between £ 20m and £ 55m over three of four seasons between 2016 and 2020. With the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, it still feels likely to be four out of five when the 2020/21 accounts close.

Super agent Jorge Mendes is very close to both Nuno and Lage and if there is an agreement on Coady, the Portuguese tycoon would be well suited to facilitate it.

The Wolves are looking for defensive reinforcements this summer themselves and just like the Spurs, Burnley’s Tarkowski is a player they are interested in.
