Perraud agrees to a four-year contract

Southampton have confirmed the signing of Stade Brest left-back Romain Perraud on a four-year deal.

The Saints had been in the market for a new left-back since long-time Ryan Bertrand resigned with a free transfer and had been linked to various goals.

But they have landed on 23-year-old Perraud, who has played 61 games for Brest since joining OGC Nice in the summer of 2019. He did three times and recorded eight assists for Brest and was named to the Ligue 1 team for the 2020/21 season.

He will be their second signing after the permanent arrival of Theo Walcott from Everton.

Speaking about his signing, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “This is an important first signing for us. It is obvious that the left back is an area where we wanted to strengthen and we have tracked Romain for a long time because he fits our profile very well for this position.

“He is a high energy, robust guy with good aggression who will give a lot of energy to our game. He has good quality with his delivery from the width and is very competitive with his defense.

“By completing the transition before the start of the pre-season, he can start training with us immediately, learning our way of playing and tactical behavior. I think Romain will fit in well with us and we can help him develop his game further and maximize his potential. ”

Perraud also expressed his joy at moving to the Premier League and revealed that the club had sold his project to him during talks.

“I am very happy to be a saint and I can not wait to start this adventure. I think it is the best club for me,” he said. “The manager explained to me the project for the club and for me it is very very important.

“He talked to me about tactics, about the way to play, and there are similarities in his game with mine. The feeling was very good, so now I’m here and I’m very happy. ”
