Paul Aguilar close to moving
League MX player Paul Aguilar has revealed that he hopes to play in Major League Soccer after being strongly linked with Austin FC earlier this year.
The right-back’s contract with Liga MX giants Club America recently expired, leaving him as a free agent before the Major League Soccer transfer window. Reports began to rise in November 2020 that Austin FC desperately wanted Aguilar to join the expansion team. ESPN first speculated about the player’s situation and said without a doubt that Aguilar would sign for an MLS club next year.
The league’s website reiterated Austin FC’s interest in the player by publishing articles that supported the hypothesis. Several reports stated that other MLS clubs had expressed interest in Aguilar, but Austin FC is still the only name that appears. Most recently, Aguilar revealed his hopes of joining MLS during an interview with Fox Sports.
“I hope to be back on the pitch in June. We are very close to a possible MLS move, my representative will take care of it. ”
If he signs with Austin FC, he would be the expansion team’s second appointed player after the recently signed midfielder Tomas Pochettino. If Aguilar were to join Major League Soccer, he would join Mexican national team players Chicharito Hernandez (LA Galaxy), Carlos Vela (LAFC), Alan Pulido (Sporting Kansas City), Jurgen Damm (Atlanta United) and Jonathan dos Santos (LA Galaxy). )

Aguilar was transferred to Club America 2011 from Pachuca and has recorded 350 gigs for the Liga MX giants since then. During his nine years at Club America, the right-back won three League MX titles, a Copa MX, two CONCACAF Champions League titles and a Campeon de Campeones. Aguilar played an integrated role during Miguel Herrera’s time as head coach and proudly boasted the captain’s bracelet before resigning.
Internationally, Aguilar appeared for the Mexican national team on 55 occasions since his debut in 2009 under former head coach Javier Aguirre. He last played for El Tri 2016 during the Copa America Centenario.
