Tottenham Hotspur may not have decided on a successor to Jose Mourinho in the excavation yet, but that has not stopped them from taking steps in the transfer market.
The club has reportedly started talks with Serie A side Bologna about the 22-year-old defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tomiyasu stands at 6’2 “and is a very impressive presence at the back. What makes him even more dominant is his sheer strength and speed, which makes him the ideal modern defender.
He also has an impressive flying ability, which gives quality in both penalty areas. In addition to winning just under three air battles per 90 minutes in the Serie A final campaign, the Japanese defender scored two goals.
During the 2020/21 season, Tomiyasu played 17 matches in midfield, 14 times on the right back and twice on the left back in all competitions.
The 22-year-old is bipedal and his combination of brutal physicality, defensive awareness, speed and technical skill (all proven in the highlight above) allows him to perform anywhere over the back line.
Tomiyasu had just turned 19 when he left his home country to sign for the Belgian Pro League team Sint-Truiden in January 2018.
In the summer of 2019, after his first full season in Belgium, Bologna took him in a deal worth 9 million euros.

Tomiyasu has been part of Japan’s international approach since the age of 13. He has represented his nation at all levels from the 14th century to the senior side and won the Asian Football Federation’s Championship in 19 years 2016.
Now, only 22 years old, the Bologna man has been covered 23 times at senior level and scored a goal, which has become a first choice in the process.
He collaborated with former Southampton player Maya Yoshida at the heart of the defense when Japan beat Mongolia 14-0 back in March.
With the delayed Olympics in Tokyo 2020 this summer, all Tottenham fans who want to get a glimpse of their potential new man can see him act for Japan’s men’s team.
The host country will face South Africa on 22 July, Mexico on 25 July and France on 28 July in Group A.

22-year-old Tomiyasu, who had first made his international senior debut in October 2018, was named by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics in the Asian Football Federation’s team from the decade 2011-2020.
The defender was appointed along with Yoshida, Keisuke Honda and Son-Heung min.

Only 21 at the start of a save, the defender is already ranked at 75 with the potential to grow to a huge 85.
