Mikel Arteta hits VAR after the Arsenal defeat
Mikel Arteta has beaten VAR for reversing the decision to award Arsenal a penalty during their 1-0 defeat to Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
At 0-0, the Gunners had been awarded a spot kick when Dani Ceballos was brought down in the area by Richarlison, but the call was disrupted after a VAR check due to Nicolas Pepe being marginally offside in the build-up.
After the penalty was not awarded, Everton continued to take a huge victory at the Emirates with the permission of an unfortunate goalkeeper from Bernd Leno (where is Emi Martinez when you need him, huh?).

Speak after the defeat – Arsenal’s 13th season in the Premier League – Arteta paralyzed VAR (quote via the club’s official website):
“It’s built up and enough is enough, and today, to be fair, I had enough. We’ve had many of them, and no one explains. When they explain, they say, ‘sorry, that was a mistake,’ but unfortunately it’s. affects many people, and it affects our job and most importantly our football club.
“That’s why I can not understand it and I’ve been in football long enough and I can watch it ten times and if I want to find it I can not find it.
“I really like that we can use technology, it’s just that we need consistency, clarity and we want to see their faces and answers. We are always here in front of the media and try to explain why we do something, why we do the other and I think that it must be clear and explained. “

Arteta also discussed the protests held outside the Emirates before Friday night’s game and expressed the need for the club to build the trust of its own fans after the Super League debacle:
“I think it’s a relationship that needs to come together from both parties, one gives some opportunities and the other shows that they want to be closer to them.
“I talk about what my experience is and the relationship I have with them [the fans] and how committed they are, and now my biggest challenge is to get them into the arena as quickly as possible and show that passion, and that belonging and unity with the team because the team is desperate for them to be close to us. “
