Ondrej Kudela handed over a preliminary ban on a match for the Glen Kamara incident

Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela has been given a temporary Europa League ban for a match by UEFA following Glen Kamara’s accusation that he was racially abused by the Czech Republic’s international.

The incident in question occurred during the second stage of Rangers’ Europa League clash with Slavia at Ibrox last month.

With only a few minutes left in the hotly contested affair – where two Gers players had already received a red card – football suddenly took the back seat when Kudela covered her mouth to whisper something in Kamara’s ear.

Whatever is said caused a stir, with players from both sides having to be held back by their teammates. Kamara has since gone to social media to explain her version of events, although Slavia has continued to stand behind her player.

UEFA has since launched an investigation into the matter, and they have now revealed that Kudela has been given a temporary Europa League ban, with further information about the matter which will be released in due course.

“After an investigation carried out by a UEFA ethics and discipline inspector regarding the incidents that occurred during the UEFA Europa League round 16/16 in the second round between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha on March 18, 2021, proceedings have been initiated against Mr Ondrej Kudela for UEFA: Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Bodies (CEDB) shall assess a potential infringement of Article 14 (1) or Article 15 (1) (a) (iv) of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations (DR) and against Mr Glen Kamara in order for CEDB to assess a potential infringement of Article 15 (1) ( g) in DR, ”the statement was read.

“In accordance with Article 49 of the DR, CEDB today decided to suspend Mr Ondrej Kudela for the next (1) UEFA Club Match for which he would otherwise be entitled to the prima facie violation of Article 15 (1) (a) (iv) of the DR, without it affects any decision that CEDB may subsequently make on the alleged infringement of Article 14 (1) of the DR.

“Further information on this matter will be made available once UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary bodies have made a timely decision.”

With disciplinary proceedings, Kudela can still receive additional punishment if the investigation concludes that it is necessary.

Slavia’s defender will not play a role in his side’s clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, although the club had already announced he would not travel due to illness.
