The hosts started the match in a windy way but it was Bayern who broke the deadlock when they grew into the game. A Joshua Kimmich ball over the top was collected by Thomas Muller, who pulled it back for Goretzka to smash into the top corner.

Leipzig saw most of the ball after the interval and pressed for an equalizer, but Bayern’s back line stood firm and never gave them any clear chances. Bayern put defense first and saw the 1-0 victory move them seven points away from their hosts at the top of the Bundesliga, which could potentially end the race for the title.
Let us now come to your player ratings from Topspiel …

Peter Gulacsi (GK) – 6/10 – Could not do anything about Goretzka’s roaring finish, but made a couple of good saves throughout the game.
Nordi Mukiele (RB) – 6/10 – Marshalled and closed the door to Kingsley Coman well but was not as efficient in the future, but did not manage to deliver real quality in the box.
Willi Orban (CB) – 7/10 – Read the game in a brilliant way and handled the Bavarian runners well, made seven ball recoveries and a couple of clearances.Dayot Upamecano (CB) – 6/10 – Composed on the ball, which often brought it out of the defense and was strong defensively, sipped into important moments to deny Bayern’s top men.Lukas Klostermann (LB) – 5/10 – Unusually reluctant to move forward and introduce himself in the last third. Was obviously worried about Leroy Sane and was sometimes a little overwhelmed by the winger.
Marcel Sabitzer could not influence the game as much as he usually does Alexander Hassenstein / Getty Images
Tyler Adams (CM) – 5/10 – Pushed high up and energetic, often winning the ball back to put moves goes fast but lost the physical battle with Goretzka in the middle of the field.Marcel Sabitzer (CM) – 5/10 – Made some good swinging arrows to advanced areas but was pretty quiet and only produced quality sporadically. Also left a bit defensive at times, especially not tracking Goretzka in the build-up to the opening goal.Dani Olmo (AM) – 6/10 – Another who thought it was tough in the middle of the field but was very durable all the time and looked dangerous. Unfortunately caught chances that should have bulged out the net.

Christopher Nkunku (RW) – 5/10 – Started really well, put a couple of fantastic crosses in the box but faded out quickly and did not improve when it was in the center, without registering a shot on goal or a key pass.
Emil Forsberg (ST) – 4/10 – Played like a false nine, drove deep to get on the ball but fought against Bayern intense pressure. Unhooked at half time without registering a single shot or key pass.
Amadou Haidara (LW) – 6/10 – Didn’t stop running and biting the heel of his opposing figures, but could not hit the field without feeling confident on his weaker left foot.

Manuel Neuer (GK) – 6/10 – As usual, he was very comfortable with his feet and always gave them in front of him the opportunity to avoid the pressure. Did not have to use your hands so much.Benjamin Pavard (RB) – 6/10 – Offering no time and space so could not find his passing area, but remained solid at the back and won most of his air battles.Niklas Sule (CB) – 7/10 – It has proved difficult to get around Leipzig, making six ball recoveries all the time, while playing some good balls from the back to his midfielder.
David Alaba (CB) – 7/10 – Often stepped up to quickly nod the ball when it came into the opposition’s attacker and timed his tackles well and made four ball recoveries. Also went out of defense and relieved the pressure.Lucas Hernandez (LB) – 9/10 – A really solid display on the back. Most of Leipzig’s moves came down on his side and the left back stood firm and made 11 attempts all the time.

Joshua Kimmich (CM) – 7/10 – Was not as influential as he can be, but grew into the game over time and began to dictate games from the depths. Helped create the goal with a superb ball over the top for Muller.Leon Goretzka (CM) – 9/10 – Matched and improved Leipzig’s physicality and power in midfield and enjoyed the fight. Made eight ball recoveries and finished sensationally to secure the winner.
Thomas Muller (AM) – 7/10 – Wandered freely and found the place brilliantly. Managed to weave into the channels and provided an end product that helped Goretzka – or SCOREtzka – for the opener.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was a good start for Bayern Alexander Hassenstein / Getty Images
Leroy Sane (RW) – 7/10 – Sometimes found himself surrounded but did well in driving forward and threatening when possible and made a key pass. Also worked hard to track down and help his defensive colleagues.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (ST) – 6/10 – Was mostly isolated but generally had a decent game. Kept the ball well to get others to play and did some really good flick-ons that could have been dangerous.
Kinglsey Coman (LW) – 6/10 – Was light all the time and actually did well defensively, read games to make a couple of ball recoveries high up. Couldn’t really hit Leipzig’s back line and influence procedures he would have liked, though.
