Premier League teams 2020/21 charge £ 272 million in agent fees

It has been revealed that Premier League clubs paid out over £ 272 million in agent fees during the 2020/21 season with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United as the biggest expenses.

The figure represents an increase of £ 9 million compared to last season’s total, despite clubs being forced to pull their handbags due to the loss of match day revenue in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

There were no surprises as to which side topped the list released by BBC Sport, where Chelsea were forced to spend over £ 35 million in agency fees following their summer transfer spurt.

Former Blues boss Frank Lampard has spent around £ 222m trying to bolster Chelsea’s squad, with Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech all arriving at Stamford Bridge in big money.

Manchester City were the only other side to break £ 30 million, with local rivals Manchester United a close third on the list spending over £ 29 million.

West Brom and West Ham were the only two sides to spend less than £ 5m on agency fees, further proof of the work David Moyes has done at Hammers this season.
