a senior authentic accused of sexual attack
A senior Comorian official is worried about a sexual assault case. The former ambassador to the Comoros in Paris and chief of staff of several foreign ministers was fired from his post as diplomatic adviser on Monday, March 29, after being heard by the gendarmerie for sexually abusing a trainee at the ministry.
The case caused an uproar in the archipelago where sexual harassment is extremely taboo, especially in the public sector. Abdallah Mirghane went free Monday morning to the Gendarmerie Research Brigade to be heard there for the second time. The gendarmes who arrested him the day before, Sunday, then released him on the prosecutor’s orders due to a lack of complaints from the alleged victim.
Staff from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs were also heard. The Public Prosecutor’s Office reserves the right to decide whether negotiations if the hearings prove to be decisive or whether the principal concerned submits a complaint.
A clumsiness according to Abdallah Mirghane
This is a young trainee in his twenties who has not yet contacted the police. The case broke out in the private sphere and then on social networks. This first moral scandal in a Comorian institution releases passions so far that the minister fired his diplomatic adviser.
The former ambassador to the Comoros issued a letter describing his version of events. He talks about trouble with a door, but no gesture of a sexual nature and regrets that he is thus subjected to popular retaliation.
