Relations between Ethiopia and Sudan too deep to be shaken by conspirators: PM
ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the historical ties between Ethiopia and Sudan are too deep to be shaken by the conspirators’ desire.
In a statement in Arabic today, he said that the social and cultural relations and ties between the peoples of the two nations go back to centuries ago and still shine.
These people also continued to be supportive of each other in times of crisis, he said, adding that they were and still are in a pot to defend their common values in regional and international fora.
Ethiopia has always been keen on the stability of its neighborhoods to the same extent as it is keen on the stability and security of the population, he said.
When the revolution broke out in Sudan to achieve the people’s demands for freedom and justice, the government and the people of Ethiopia stood by their brothers in Sudan, he said.
The government has recently been following closely what some parties are doing to distort the unique, intimate and good neighborly relations between Ethiopia and Sudan, he said.
According to the Prime Minister, these parties are constantly moving to sow doubt and disagreement between the governments of the two nations.
Driven by hidden agendas, these actors planned and funded the recent confrontation that took place in the Ethio-Sudanese border areas, he said.
“Knowing who was behind these despicable actions does not require any effort on our part or thinking deeply,” the Prime Minister indicated.
The recent conflicts do not at all represent the wishes of both Ethiopia and Sudan, he said.
“Such events do not in any way represent the long – standing relationship of our country or the hope of our people for development and prosperity,” he said.
The Ethiopian government is determined to halt the conflict in border areas permanently and decisively and use the areas as a means of encouraging socio-economic cooperation between the two nations, he said.
