In a significant breakthrough, Spanish police have uncovered an illegal underground firing range believed to be operated by a weapons trafficking ring allegedly supplying assault rifles and other arms to various drug gangs. This discovery underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combatting organized crime.

During a recent operation, officers conducted a raid on a residence in the southern province of Granada, unveiling the firing range situated three stories beneath the surface. The depth of the site ensured that neighbors were unaware of the gunfire, highlighting the lengths to which criminal organizations will go to conceal their activities.
This incident marks a notable first for Spain, as authorities stated, “It is the first time we have found an illegal shooting range run by a criminal group.” Such revelations emphasize the evolving tactics used by organized crime syndicates in the region.
The police’s statement noted, “The operation has removed weapons from the streets that could have been used to commit extremely serious crimes.” It was revealed that the group not only offered assault rifles, submachine guns, and automatic pistols for sale, but also a cache of ammunition, bulletproof vests, and tactical equipment—essential supplies for any criminal undertaking.
As a result of this operation, officers arrested three individuals and confiscated several firearms along with more than €60,000 in cash. Authorities have indicated that further arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
