Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) — Mohamed Y. Abdulla, Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security for the Southwest State, wrapped up a four-day workshop in Mogadishu aimed at protecting and reintegrating children affected by armed conflict. The training, held in partnership with UNICEF Somalia and the United Nations Transition Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), sought to strengthen systems that shield children from the harms of conflict.
The workshop concentrated on bolstering child protection frameworks, stopping the recruitment and use of children in hostilities, and improving coordinated responses to grave violations against children.
Participants included representatives from the Ministries of Internal Security, Justice, Health, Women and Human Rights, and Education at both the Federal and Federal Member State levels, alongside officials from UNTMIS, UNICEF Somalia, and EUCAP Somalia.
In remarks during the sessions, the Director General underscored the Ministry’s active measures to defend children’s rights, curb child recruitment into armed groups, and foster secure environments where children can learn, develop, and flourish.
