Mogadishu (AX) – Somali Premier Hamse Abdi Barre reinforced on Tuesday that the discussions by the National Consultative Council (NCC) in Mogadishu are progressing as planned. This is even after Jubbaland’s leader, Ahmed Madobe, returned to Kismayo amidst tensions over the forthcoming elections.
In the heart of Mogadishu, Prime Minister Barre gave his word that both federal and regional dignitaries are deep in dialogue over crucial matters. “Once all topics are hashed out, they’ll make their decisions public,” he mentioned.
“The National Consultative Council convened on October 2, and it isn’t slowing down,” he assured. “Leaders are locked in significant talks, and, in due time, formal declarations will be delivered.”
The Prime Minister underscored a staunch support for Somali unity, declaring, “We pledge our allegiance to the unity and spirit of Somalis, refusing to entertain anything that might fracture our people. Progress is our promise.”
This marks the ninth assembly of the NCC since Hassan Sheikh Mohamud clinched the presidency again in 2022. Although Madobe’s exit posed a hiccup, Barre remained hopeful about the constructive outcome of the current deliberations.
The walkout by Jubbaland’s President, Ahmed Madobe, centered on his demand for Northeastern State and Khatumo’s inclusion in the debate. He maintained that their absence would undermine the integrity needed for a legitimate nationwide electoral process.
