Sergio Aguero’s biggest career moment to date

It took Manchester City a full 15 minutes to announce that they would honor Sergio Aguero with a statue after the news that he is leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer, but it is difficult to argue with the decision.

The Argentine forward is without a doubt one of the greatest foreign players to ever grace the Premier League, and his career before joining City was not average either.

It will be emotional …?

You will no doubt be bombarded with articles reminiscent of Aguero’s time in England in the coming months, so we’ve done better and ranked the top ten moments in his career so far. Enjoy…

Atletico Madrid’s incredible ability to produce world – class strikers is no secret, and Aguero is without a doubt the greatest success story of them all.

Atleti picked up frontman from Argentine outfit Independiente in 2006, and one of his biggest achievements at the club was their 2010 Super Cup triumph.

Quique Sanchez Flore’s side went into the match underdogs against Champions League winners Inter, but goals from Jose Antonio Reyes and Aguero gave them (apparently) their first ever Super Cup.

Think back to what you did with your life at 15. Compare that now with Aguero who made his debut in the Argentine first division at the same age. Ahhh, that’s the sinking feeling again.

The forward became the youngest player ever to appear in the country’s top flight when he made his debut for Independiente in 2003 – a record that still stands today.

A year later, he broke a new record when he became the youngest player ever to play in the Copa Libertadores.

Aguero may only have two medals to show for his time with the Argentina senior side, but his debut was still a milestone in his career.

Citypeditionen got his first hat just 18 years old against the tough rivals Brazil in 2006, and he continued to open his international account a year later in a World Cup qualifier in 2010 against Bolivia.

His international career so far has garnered 97 international appearances, and with 41 goals to his name, he looks good to overtake Gabriel Batistuta (44) in second place in Argentina’s list of all-time leading scorers.

We all know who is at the top of the list and there is no point in even trying to match him.

It may not seem like a huge achievement to be crowned FIFA’s Golden Boy, but when you think of some of the names on the list of winners, you get a sense of how impressive an award it is to receive.

Since its inception in 2004, only four players had been named Golden Boy winners before Aguero’s triumph in 2007, but still included honorary roles such as Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi.

Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have all continued to lift the trophy ever since, but the less said about the 2008 winner the better (go and beat it).

Discuss everything you think about the fantastic teammates he played together, Aguero’s goal-scoring record in the Premier League is sensational.

During his nine seasons in England, he has reached 20 league goals or more in six campaigns, and in 2014/15, his 26 goals in 33 games were enough to secure the golden boot.

The most surprising thing about all this is that he has no more.

Aguero’s international senior career has been filled with almost a moment, with two defeats in the Copa America and one defeat in the World Cup final.

But his short career with the youth sides yielded silver, and at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Argentina won the U23 side.

A goal for Angel Di Maria in the final against Nigeria was enough to secure gold for Aguero and his teammates. Who would have guessed that such a talented group of players would get so much heartbreak at the senior level?

It may not seem like a huge achievement for a man with so many Premier League winning medals on his mantle (probably), but Atletico’s 2010 League victory in 2010 was a milestone in his history.

After years of medium mediocrity and even a spell in the second tier, Atleti were finally on their way and their European triumph in 2010 proved that they were a force to be reckoned with again.

Aguero scored six goals in the club’s successful Europa League campaign and Atletico have gone from strength to strength ever since.

Winning a Premier League title is a pretty impressive achievement, but Four.

Only four players born outside the British Isles have won more than the Argentine, and the recent triumph may well be the sweetest of the party.

City battled a brave Liverpool side and won all of their last 14 league games to lead the Reds to the title. Apparently Aguero was in the lead for the title victory and made 21 on 33 league trips.

While Aguero’s time at City will forever be remembered as a glittering period in the club’s history, he will of course be mentioned constantly in the same breath as his statue mates Vincent Kompany and David Silva, so it’s nice to know he has his own individual record to lean on.

Hitman is City’s leading goal scorer of all time and has surpassed Eric Brook’s 78-year-old record of 177 goals back in November 2017.

Since then, it is fair to say that he raised the bar a bit, with his current mood for the club stood at an eye-watering 257 – and counted.

How can it not be?

While he will surely be his fourth Premier League crown in City will always be cute, but the first will always be the biggest for so many different reasons.

Their first top class in 44 years, stealing it from their local rivals, Aguero’s last minute goal, Martin Tyler’s comment, Phil Jones’ face, Kolo Toure standing as if waiting for his kettle to boil, the list goes on and on.

We can not even do it justice, no one will ever be able to do it justice. It’s just the best moment ever in Aguero’s career and the best moment ever in Premier League history.
