HARGEISA, North Western State of Somalia (AXADLE) – In an exciting breakthrough, the Ministry of Education and Science in North Western State of Somalia has officially recognized the North Western State of Somalia Teachers’ Association (SOLTA), ushering in a new era for educators and academic advancement in the area.
On September 30, 2024, an endorsement came from Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane, the Minister of Education and Science. This nod gives SOLTA the authority to speak on behalf of teachers across primary, intermediate, and secondary schools nationwide.
Earlier, in March 2021, SOLTA secured its initial Trade Union Registration Certificate, courtesy of the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family.
The first General Assembly of the association convened on December 20, 2021, at Hargeisa’s Mansoor Hotel. Delegates from across North Western State of Somalia gathered to elect a 23-member board, regional ambassadors, and a five-person executive team.
This gathering set SOLTA’s wheels in motion to unite, advocate for, and represent teachers throughout North Western State of Somalia.
Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed, better known as Ahmed Omaar, who serves as SOLTA’s Director of Training and Organizational Development and as a Board Member, expressed, “This milestone fills us with gratitude towards Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane and the Ministry of Education and Science for their steadfast backing and shared belief in our goals.” He didn’t forget to acknowledge the vital support from the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family.
SOLTA is steadfast in its mission to champion educators’ welfare and push for their interests, spurring both educational growth and teaching excellence.
“Investing in teachers is investing in students and crucial for national progress,” Ahmed Omaar added with conviction.
