Hormuud Salaam Foundation Joins Forces with SomaliREN and Tabaarak ICT to Boost Tech Skills for Somali Youth

MOGADISHU, Somalia – On October 27, 2024, at Mogadishu’s Jazeera Hotel, Hormuud Salaam Foundation teamed up with SomaliREN and Tabaarak ICT Solutions to kick off the “Bile Initiative.” This program focuses on final-year Computer Science scholars, giving them specialized training, guidance, and job prospects.

With an ambition to bolster 150 students, this initiative dives deep into intensive courses on MEAN Stack, .NET, and UI/UX design, pairing them with hands-on project experience. Students will also benefit from a half-year internship at Tabaarak ICT Solutions to refine their skills and career readiness.

Abdullahi Nur Osman, leading the Hormuud Salaam Foundation, stressed the program’s push in promoting creativity and community progress. “Inspiring young thinkers is crucial to shaping Somalia’s flourishing future,” he remarked.

Hon. Ahmed Osman Dirie, State Minister of Communications and Technology, lauded the initiative for tackling key unemployment issues. “As AI reshapes the job landscape, skill growth becomes pivotal,” he observed.

Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, pointed out the value of teamwork in these educational projects. He appreciated the collaboration’s commitment to boosting the country’s tech prowess.

Hon. Yusuf Mohamed Aden, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, described the Bile Initiative as a vital leap forward for Somalia’s digital growth, investing in the youth’s potential and the nation’s future.

Dr. Mohamed Bidey of SomaliREN mentioned, “This venture seamlessly links our universities with the tech field, ensuring our students are academically and practically equipped.”

Not only does the initiative endow students with essential skills, but it also places them closer to potential jobs, with a strong possibility of landing work at Tabaarak ICT or via referrals.

Gure Abdi Anshur, CEO of Tabaarak ICT Solutions, shared his hopes for grooming tech trailblazers in Somalia, emphasizing the value of the training and mentoring on offer.
