In Sudan, number two in the transition, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeti”, has publicly refused to integrate his rapid support forces into an army under a unified command. A project which, however, is supported by the main transition and the civilian forces that together lead the country. Above all, this statement reveals the growing antagonism that is emerging within the armed forces.

Private and public, General “Hemeti” does not hide his disagreement with his leader. “Talking about integrating the rapid support forces into the army could break the country,” he said on Friday during a tribute ceremony to a commander of the Darfuri rebel movement in Minni Minawi. These forces “are being introduced by a law passed by an elected parliament,” he told the Sudan Tribune. It is not a battalion or a company that is likely to integrate the army, it is an important force “, he concluded.

Accepted refusal

However, this desire to unite the army is a project led by the number one member of the Sovereign Transitional Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, and is supported by the civilian forces that are leading the transition together.

But this refusal, “Hemeti” has long adopted it with his private speakers, indicates a source who met him recently. He claims that he is both a victim of personal conflicts, given his Chadian origins and his lack of university education. But also from unfair marginalization, given the role he says he played in the case of former President Omar al-Bashir.

In any case, the fact that he spoke to former rebels in Darfur on Friday adds this source, indicating that he does not intend to be accused alone of all diseases in the country without resistance.
