In his speech on 6 June, the President of the Central African Republic announced the end of consultations to hold a major national dialogue. For the opposition platform COD-2020, the proposed dialogue can not ensure national reconciliation.
Faustin Archange Touadéra announced it implementation of this dialogue was imminent without giving a date. Two hundred and three people were consulted: members of civil society, religious denominations, heads of the republic’s institutions, former heads of state, technical and financial partners, and political parties, in addition to part of the opposition grouped inCOD-2020 who refused to participate in the process.
This platform explains in a statement published on Monday evening, 21 June, that the proposed dialogue could not lead to national reconciliation.

President Touadéra is proposing something that is not in line with what we want. Dialogue for us is to succeed in solving a number of problems that undermine our country’s development. Namely the security issue, institutional issues and also poor governance. We thought that this dialogue could be written under the sign of inclusion, ie at the level of the Preparatory Committee, at the level of the actors, the participants, but it would also be necessary for this dialogue to be released under a neutral mediation. We hoped that this dialogue could be organized under the supervision of the sub-regional authorities.
Should CPCs participate in this dialogue?
You can not solve the security problem without involving the armed groups! Who today creates uncertainty in the country? It is not the political parties, it is also the armed groups! If you want to organize a dialogue without the participation of armed groups, I am very afraid that we will not be able to achieve a lasting outcome to the crisis. ”
