Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting extends Bayern Munich stay

Football has mainly become a money-dominated industry where power plants in Europe control the game – something the Super League saga did a pretty good job of highlighting.

But every now and then we get a reminder in a timely manner that fairy tales can and still happen in our beautiful game. You know, like Leicester who won the Premier League or players other than the league make it to the top.

The story of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is hardly a credible tale.

Could not hit a box door early in his career with Hamburg, did not do so badly with Mainz and Schalke before taking a little nose dive into the Premier League obscurity with Stoke City, and for some reason his career just got mental!

The Cameroon international managed to secure a move to Paris Saint-Germain and two years later he played in the Champions League final.

The best had not yet come when he then moved to Bayern Munich – they had clearly discovered what talent he was in the Champions League final just a few months earlier – and after the injury to talisman Robert Lewandowski, he was suddenly in Europe’s top competition for Bavaria.

To be fair to the frontman, he did a decent job – he scored a goal in both legs in the semi-final when Bayern were dumped by PSG – and the saga has taken another ridiculous twist as he will now be offered a new deal at the club.

BILD reports that Bayern are keen to tie Choupo-Moting for another year with his contract expiring in the summer – with an agreement that is expected to be reached in the coming weeks.

The report adds that the club sees the move as good business sense given his relatively low salary and has been impressed by his performances in the absence of Lewandowski.

Choupo-Moting is multilingual and speaks four different languages, and the club sees it as an important asset with so many different nationalities in Bavaria locker rooms.
