Former Arsenal midfielder David Luiz has reached a verbal agreement on a possible move to Brazilian Flamengo this summer.

The 34-year-old has been a free agent since his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of last season and has taken plenty of time to evaluate all his options.

It is believed that Luiz has received a number of offers to stay in Europe, but Globo revealed earlier this week that Flamengo had reached beyond a potential agreement and grew in confidence that they could attract the veteran back to Brazil.
Now, according to Pedro Almeida, Luiz’s move to Flamengo is almost complete, with only agency fees left to discuss before the move can be made official.
Flamengo hopes to be able to get the deal across the border and believes that it can happen because this is the only proposal that Luiz has been interested in so far.
He has had offers from Saudi Arabia and French Marseille, while former employers Benfica continue to be linked to Luiz, but the defender is waiting for a project that “touches his heart” – and he seems to have found it with Flamengo.
Flamengo is not arguing this summer. They have taken in big loans such as Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira, Chelsea’s Kenedy and Lilles Thiago Maia when they look to keep their Serie A crown.

The addition of Luiz would come as a huge boost for Mengao. Although he may have struggled during his last season with Arsenal, Luiz is still one of the biggest names in Brazilian football and obviously has a lot of experience with him.
Since leaving Brazil in 2007, Luiz has appeared for Benfica, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, playing at the highest level for both club and country.
