Bergwijn a goal for Ajax
Ajax are interested in taking a step towards Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn, who wants to leave Spurs in search of regular football in the first team.

The Dutch winger was one of Jose Mourinho’s first acquisitions at the club and arrived in January 2020, but after a strong half-season after signing, he struggled to impress in his first full season of Premier League football, just starting 13 league games in 2020/21 campaign.

According to the Daily Mail, his fight in north London could end this summer, as Ajax are keen to bring the 23-year-old back to the Eredivisie.
However, the move would require the Dutch giants to match what Tottenham did for him. Spurs took Bergwijn to England from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth £ 27 million – a significant fee for Ajax, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, it is believed that the club wants the wide midfielder to stay at Tottenham at the beginning of the pre-season with Mourinho’s permanent successor (increasingly likely Nuno Espirito Santo) at least – allowing the weak possibility of a regular, long-term future at Spurs for Bergwijn.
The 23-year-old’s move to Ajax would, however, suit him. Bergwijn would return to the Eredivisie, where he has proven his quality, while his international ambitions would gain momentum.

The Spurs man has 12 games for the Netherlands in his career so far, even though he was left out of Frank de Boers squad for the European Championship 2020.
A move to Ajax would assure Bergwijn of regular first-team action and thus stand him in good stead to force himself back to De Boer’s plans ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
