In the speech before EURO 2020, Italy’s manager Roberto Mancini gave an insight into his side’s style of play and acknowledged that one of their strengths lies ahead.
The Azzurri have started the tournament in electric form and won all three of their group games against Turkey, Switzerland and Wales and scored seven goals during the process. Ciro Immobile and Manuel Locatelli have both already done twice while Matteo Pessina and Lorenzo Insigne have also contributed.
Speaking about the philosophy of the side, Mancini told UEFA: “We are a team that always wants to play good football. Obviously sometimes it does not go our way.
“Maybe we have won sometimes without deserving it, but it is football. This has been our philosophy in recent years and it has enabled us to achieve some positive results, so we continue in this way.
“We have some fantastic strikers in the squad, all of whom have scored many goals in their careers, so we hope they will also be very productive in this. [UEFA] Euro 2020. “
There had been some concern about Immobile’s difficulties in translating his domestic form with Lazio into the national team, although such concerns have been put to bed after his quick start to the tournament.
On Immobile, Mancini added: “He is very important to us. Sure, scoring is a striker’s job, but there are games where our forwards have to play for the team, provide assists and do other important things. the team can achieve a positive result. “
Italy has qualified for the knockout stages in EURO 2020 and will face Austria in the round of 16.
