Gary Neville beats clubs involved in European Super League

The football world is melting the news that 11 of Europe’s biggest clubs have signed up for a breakthrough European Super League – a move opposite of UEFA, the Premier League and apparently Gary Neville.

An announcement about the formation of the new league is expected immediately and constitutes a direct threat to UEFA’s plans to renew the Champions League from 2024, which in itself was formally expected to be announced on Monday.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are among 11 major European clubs that benefit a European Super League to a reformatted Champions League. Man City are expected to join them, along with three clubs each from Spain and Italy.

In a passionate run under Sky Sports’ Super Sunday coverage, pundit and former Man Utd defender Neville beat the clubs involved, demanding that they be removed from their titles and deducted points.

“They have no loyalty to this country and these leagues,” he said. “That’s enough. There’s not a single football fan in the country who will not simmer on these messages.

“This is to dismiss your own clubs, this. How can you even think of coming and playing a Super League match here after leaving your 14 Premier League clubs to play against each other.

“Your championship clubs dead, your EFL one and two clubs dead, your national league, your pyramid scheme that you have been fighting for for 150 years away because of six clubs. Absolutely embarrassing, it will never happen.

“Let them break, but honestly punish them right away. They should be punished severely. Massive fines, points deductions, remove their titles, who cares? Give the title to Burnley, Fulham.

“Let Fulham stay up, relegate United, Liverpool and Arsenal, because the three clubs are the history of this country, they should be the ones who should be affected the most. They should know better.”

Later in Sky’s coverage, Neville continued: “It’s a criminal act against football fans in this country.” Asked if he thought the clubs involved would have the courage to actually go through the break, he added: “They are bottle traders, you never hear from the owners of these clubs. They have no voice.

“Seriously, in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis, National League-level football clubs are almost getting started, tough players, clubs on the fringes of League One and Two, and these parties have Zoom talks about breaking free and basically creating more greed. Jokes. “

The new league would consist of 20 teams: 15 founding members who cannot be relegated and five teams that qualify annually. However, it would not replace the Premier League or other domestic competitions – it would run together, in the same way that the Champions League currently works.

Both the Premier League and UEFA have issued statements condemning the plans.
