Mogadishu (AX) — On Monday, in the Yaqshiid neighborhood of Mogadishu, three young entrepreneurs tragically lost their lives, and another was injured by gunmen believed to be affiliated with al-Shabab. The attackers, wielding pistols, invaded their business location.

This violent incident seems to be a direct consequence of these entrepreneurs introducing CCTV cameras at their establishments, as part of a government directive aimed at enhancing security. Al-Shabab had previously issued warnings of violent repercussions for anyone complying with this regulation.

Despite the swift arrival of police and security personnel after the attack, the perpetrators managed to escape without being captured. In the past few days, there has been a spike in assaults against businesses across Mogadishu, particularly those following the government’s edict to set up surveillance systems. A string of young individuals has fallen victim to this brutal backlash against security measures.
