Deniz Undav, Germany’s striker, dazzled with two first-half goals in a six-minute flurry, steering his team to a gritty 2-1 win against Bosnia this past Friday, keeping them perched atop their Nations League group.

Missing a few linchpins like Jamal Musiala, Niclas Fuellkrug, and Aleksandar Pavlovic due to injuries, the Germans still retained the upper hand right from the whistle. Yet, their chances appeared scarce aside from Pascal Gross’s wayward attempt against Bosnia’s tight defense.

Germany found their stride slightly past the half-hour point when Robert Andrich expertly lofted a cross. Florian Wirtz, with his back to the host’s goal, delivered a deft setup for Undav, who coolly converted on the fly.

The forward from VfB Stuttgart struck again in just six minutes, tapping in another goal from Maximilian Mittelstaedt’s sharp cross.

The visitors had the net shaking thrice more, but alas, those chances succumbed to the offside flag.

Ermedin Demirovic smacked the goalpost for Bosnia, but Edin Dzeko narrowed the gap with a late header in the 70th minute, injecting a sense of suspense into the final stages. Despite this, Bosnia couldn’t snag an equalizer.

“All in all, I’m pleased with how we played,” remarked Germany’s coach Julian Nagelsmann. “We were solid defensively with few counter-attacks allowed. Maybe we didn’t bag as many goals as our control suggested.

“Yet, we had to consider how aggressively to chase a third after conceding, especially after our subs came on. Plus, we’ve got to keep Monday’s match against the Netherlands in mind.”

Nagelsmann also highlighted that Chris Fuehrich, a key midfielder, won’t be available come Monday due to a muscle injury he picked up when subbing on.

Germany now leads Group A3 with seven points from three outings, closely shadowed by the Netherlands with five. Hungary stands at two, while Bosnia occupies the bottom with one.
