suspension of roadside checks in the central region
In Burkina Faso, facing harassment and dismissal, national police are suspending roadside checks in Ouagadougou municipality until December 15. According to the Central Region Police Director, this is to better “reorganize” the administrative control and avoid certain abuses.
as reported from Ouagadougou, Yaya Boudani
This decision was taken following repeated complaints from users regarding acts of dismissal during these control operations, according to the Regional Director of the Center’s Police.
A measure that falls a few days after the publication of a report condemning corruption within the police. “The decision has nothing to do with this location. It’s just a matter of reviewing the control methods, ”defends the regional director of the police force on the antennas for public television. It is the control of vehicle documents, ie the gray card, the inspection certificate and the driving license that is suspended.
“Every perpetrator is subject to disciplinary action,” said Commissioner Désiré Ouedraogo. Brahim Rabo, President of the Union of Truck Drivers in Faso, is pleased with this measure. “This is part of our requirements. There were eight checkpoints between entry and exit of the city of Ouagadougou. It was excessive, ”he says.
But security checks continue, the regional police director stressed. “If you are transporting dangerous objects, if you do not respect the signs or use your phone while driving, you will be stopped and fined,” he says.
