The Holy Union received more votes than expected
The inauguration of the first government of the Holy Union took place on Monday, April 26th. Full box and even more for the new Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, 410 deputies voted in favor, out of 412 present. These are more deputies than the new majority claimed.
By the time the new majority was identified, there were 391 deputies, making it already the largest coalition Congo has ever known.
We find within that presidential coalition, of course, the UDPS, the UNC, but also the former FCC of Joseph Kabila. and the political groups of former opponents, such as former Vice President Jean-Pierre Bemba or the former governor of Katanga, Moïse Katumbi. With 410 deputies, the Holy Union received more votes than expected at the time.
In the ranks of the new opposition, we continue to condemn the corruption of deputies and accusers – including some in their ranks – for voting for the new government. Particularly important voices in the Assembly, even the most controversial in the past, as if the reform of the Constitution in 2011, there had always been a very large clear majority, which also exceeded the majority base of Parliament. So this is nothing new.
But in the present case, several deputies for RFI pointed out that despite criticism of the government’s composition or the feasibility of the program with the country’s resources, the DRC needed a new government to take action. for example, the massacres in the East or the economic crisis.
Negotiations should therefore continue on all issues of disagreement within the Holy Union, and President Tshisekedi promised deputies last weekend.
Also note the day after this investment, this joint declaration by the European Union and 17 countries in the international community, including the United States and France. They qualify the accession of the first government of the Holy Union as a historic opportunity to meet the expectations of the people.
