A figure slightly below the preliminary results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni) in November (57.87%) after the vote on 22 November. The reason: the result of 200 polling stations was suspended by the Constitutional Council after deviations or irregularities noted. The participation is 50.20%.

For his first participation in a presidential election, Eddie Komboïgo comes in second place, far behind the winner with 15.54% of the vote. The candidate from the former ruling party who was waiting for the final results to congratulate Roch Marc Christian Kaboré has not yet done so, according to a party official. “But he will do it as soon as possible,” he says.

The reorganized political landscape?

With 12.46% of the vote, Zéphirin Diabré, the current opposition leader, did no better than 2015. So the question is whether the Union for Progress and Change (UPC) will join the presidential majority or remain in opposition with the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP).

The party has not spoken officially yet. But some leaders are already rejecting the idea of being the second political force in the opposition after the CDP. These party officials and activists who do not understand that the UPC remains in an opposition led by the CDP.
