Lamine Yamal made a stunning impression in his debut for Spain, becoming their youngest player at just 16 years old during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia. In the 74th minute, Yamal calmly finished a chance after being set up by Nico Williams, extending Spain’s lead to 7-1. This achievement sees Yamal surpass his Barcelona teammate Gavi’s record, who previously represented Spain at 16 years and 57 days old.

Gavi, who also started against Georgia, had previously set Spain’s record by debuting at 17 years and 62 days old in 2021. Additionally, he held the title for the youngest goalscorer in Spain’s history, netting a goal against the Czech Republic at 17 years and 304 days old during the Nations League in June 2022.

Yamal was introduced into the game alongside Williams, replacing Marco Asensio and Dani Olmo after they both suffered injuries. This young winger had previously made history for Barcelona as their youngest La Liga player in April, entering the match as a substitute at the age of 15 years and nine months against Real Betis.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente handpicked Yamal due to his impressive performances for Barcelona at the start of the season. He became the youngest starting player in the Spanish top flight in the 21st century in August, further showcasing his potential. De la Fuente expressed his admiration for Yamal, stating that his potential is even more apparent when working with him.

Currently, Yamal holds a vital role in the Spanish national team, earning his place through his own merit. De la Fuente has complete confidence in him and believes he is a fantastic player.
