France ends decade-long Operation Barkhane in the Sahel region

France announces the end of Operation Barkhane. A decade of fighting in Africa’s troubled Sahel region has seen more than 2,000 jihadists killed, but despite the French military intervention, the violence continues. Protesters are also voicing their opposition to Uganda’s pipeline project which will see drilling take place in the country’s largest national park. Finally, Burundi reopens its border with neighboring Rwanda after seven years of closure.
