Unbelievable! Au Troops Shatter Al-shabab's Holds In Shabelle Regions With Ferocious Might!

It was a perplexing day on Friday June 2, 2023, in Mogadishu, as Somali government forces, in collaboration with African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops, launched an unprecedented attack on Al-Shabab strongholds and military posts in the Middle Shabelle region. The operation was marked by bursts of intense clashes between Burundian troops working under the African Union mission and Somali security forces. Focusing on the essential 10km stretch between Bal’ad and Gololey, the joint force targeted illicit checkpoints established by the militants and eradicated Al-Shabaab cells scheming to launch attacks on government forces, ATMIS personnel, and civilians in the region. The action was aimed at guaranteeing the unhindered movement of goods and services and securing the Main Supply Route in Buulo Mareer. However, the situation remains highly unpredictable as the militants are still active in the vicinity of the base located in the town of Bulo Marer, 110 km south of Mogadishu. Uganda is currently assessing the casualty count from this attack. It is noteworthy that this assault comes at a time when military campaigns against al-Shabab seem to have slowed down in central regions.
