Ilhan Omar has celebrated the alleged sacking of Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host who has been criticized for his fear-mongering and Islamophobic views. According to Omar, the television personality had been exhibiting open bias towards Muslims and immigrants. She accused Carlson of spreading hate and fear while picking on these groups in his segments. Tucker Carlson consistently criticized Omar for her roots in Somalia, a country that has been plagued with inter-clan conflicts and terrorism for the last three decades. In response, Omar labeled Carlson as a “racist fool,” who is “weeping about the fact that we have an African-born member of Congress.” She also criticized companies that advertise on Fox News, arguing that they should not be “underwriting hate speech.” Carlson was reportedly sacked in a surprise move by Fox News last week. The network’s leaders were allegedly distressed by a text that Carlson sent about the violence he saw during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, whereby he expressed support for the mob and reportedly rooted for them to hurt a man. Omar remarked that she is both relieved and terrified by where Carlson could end up and the kind of platform he could end up having.
