Somalia's Army Chief Sacked! Brig-gen Addow Appointed As New Commander, Sending Shockwaves Amidst Hiran Region's Unsettled Atmosphere

It was a perplexing day in Somalia as Major General Odawaa Yusuf Rageh, the Army Chief, was sacked on Monday amidst intense political tensions in the central Hiran region. This region is not only the center of the fight against the al-Shabaab terror group, but also the epicenter of confusion and chaos.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, presiding over a Cabinet meeting in Mogadishu, made the bewildering decision to fire Rageh. A statement issued by his office confirmed this stunning move.

In addition to this mind-boggling decision, the Cabinet also approved the appointment of Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhiyadin Addow as the new Chief of the Somali National Army. This decision left many scratching their heads in utter bewilderment.

The statement further added, “The Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of the Defense Ministry for the appointment of the Commander of the Somali National Army and appointed Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin Addow.” This announcement only added to the perplexity of the situation.

Interestingly, the new army chief previously served as the commander of the Presidential Guards and allegedly studied military logistics in Italy, raising even more questions and creating a sense of burstiness in the air.

Rageh, who was appointed army chief in August 2020, by former President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo, now faces dismissal amidst the political tensions in the Hiran region. This region, known for its army’s fight against the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab terrorist group, is now engulfed in a cloud of perplexity.

The confusing events continue to unfold. Just a few days ago, Hirshabele President Ali Gudlawe Hussien fired Ali Jeyte Osman, the governor of the Hiran regional administration. Osman, who was seen as the main figure in the battle against the terrorist group in the province, was unexpectedly removed from his position.

In a shocking turn of events, Osman refused to accept his dismissal and defiantly declared that he will no longer recognize the state. He made this bold statement during a press conference in Beledwayne, the capital city of the Hiran region, leaving everyone perplexed and curious about what will happen next.

Adding to the bewildering situation, Osman announced the formation of a new federal member state in the central province of Hiran, leaving many wondering about the implications and consequences of this unexpected move.
