Somalia Withdraws from CHAN 2025 Qualifiers Soon After Commencement
Somalia has stepped out of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 qualifiers just as they were about to start this weekend.
“We’ve decided to withdraw due to financial hurdles,” Yusuf Ahmed, stalwart of the Somalia Football Federation, shared with Cecafaonline.com, revealing the constraints that clipped their wings.
Burundi, who was all set to lock horns with Somalia in the early qualifiers, now finds themselves with a free pass, advancing to face Uganda in the concluding stage.
Elsewhere in the CHAN 2025 qualifiers within the CECAFA Zone, Sudan gears up to host Tanzania on October 27th, 2024, with the match unfolding in Nouakchott, Mauritania. In tandem, South Sudan will greet Kenya at the Juba National Stadium.
Djibouti, lacking a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will embrace Rwanda in Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium on Sunday for their opening leg.
Between November 1-3, 2024, the second legs will unfold, paving the way for the next round’s football fervor from December 20-22 for the opening matches and wrapping up on December 25-27, 2024.
This tournament extravaganza is set to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1-28, 2025. CECAFA is set to bring forth four teams for CHAN 2024, while the rival zones COSAFA, WAFU A, WAFU B, UNAF, and UNIFFAC will each rally three teams.
