Over 27 al-Shabab Fighters Neutralized in the Middle Shabelle Area
Mogadishu (AX) — In a remarkable display of military might, Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced the elimination of 27 al-Shabab insurgents during an extensive 12-hour operation in the Yaaqle region of Middle Shabelle.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NISA detailed how this operation zeroed in on al-Shabab militants at a prominent assemblage point, successfully dismantling their vehicles and encampments.
Encouragingly, the intelligence agency reported that its own forces suffered no losses during this rigorous engagement.
This latest operation comes on the heels of a string of aggressive campaigns conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) across Middle Shabelle, Galgadud, and Mudug. Last month alone saw over 100 militants dispatched, bringing the October tally to a staggering 254 insurgent fatalities.
Since the Somali president’s bold declaration of “an all-out war” against these al-Qaeda-affiliated groups in early 2022, the government has geared up its efforts to combat terrorism. However, it’s important to note that both parties have been known at times to inflate their reported casualty figures.
