North Western State of Somalia’s Incoming Leader Celebrates Muse Bihi’s Role in Smoothing Power Shift
HARGEISA, Somalia – Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, often called Irro, the new president-elect of North Western State of Somalia, showered praise on Muse Bihi Abdi. He hailed Bihi as the true ‘hero’ for facilitating a seamless transition of leadership following the recent elections.
The Electoral Commission officially named Irro as the victor of the presidential polls, leaving Muse Bihi Abdi trailing with just 34.8% of the vote, compared to Irro’s commanding 63.9%. Bihi’s tenure, marked by his past as a Somali Air Force pilot, concluded after seven years.
Offering his heartfelt thanks to the outgoing administration, Irro remarked on the critical importance of a smooth handover, emphasizing it as a sign of the growing maturity in North Western State of Somalia’s democratic processes.
“President Bihi truly stands victorious,” declared Irro, highlighting Bihi’s effective execution of electoral duties, coupled with his unwavering dedication to constitutional obligations. This commendation reflected the depth of appreciation felt across the nation.
The ruling Kulmiye party, showing commendable sportsmanship, requested its followers to embrace the election results graciously and to welcome Abdirahman Irro of the opposition Waddani party as their new leader. Irro’s overwhelming triumph in the Nov. 13 elections signified a dramatic political shift.
This election took place against the backdrop of North Western State of Somalia’s ongoing quest for international acknowledgment since proclaiming independence from Somalia three decades ago. Despite these efforts, the region remains a part of Somalia, and Mogadishu has vowed to halt open discussions.
The United States issued a statement applauding North Western State of Somalia’s exemplary track record for conducting elections and ensuring peaceful power transitions, calling it a beacon for the region and beyond. Washington DC joined a chorus of international voices praising the election organizers for their efforts.
Adding his voice, Djibouti’s Ismail Guelleh congratulated Abdirahman Irro and the people of North Western State of Somalia, recognizing their political wisdom in consistently upholding election ethics, all within the framework of order, peace, and stability.
