Somali troops dismantle three al Shabab strongholds in Galmudug Province

In Mogadishu (AX), a military operation targeting three al Shabab positions in the Galhareri district of Galmudug State was carried out by Somali Security Forces, with the support of international partners. Over the past few days, joint forces successfully attacked a garage where explosives were being prepared, resulting in the destruction of seven vehicles, a weapons warehouse, and a medical equipment facility utilized by the extremist group, as announced by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism on Thursday.
The federal government expressed gratitude towards the local citizens and international allies for their continuous support in the ongoing anti-al Shabab operations in Galmudug and Hirshabelle.
In a separate event, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor convened a Council of Ministers meeting, held at both the Federal and Galmudug State levels in Dhusamareeb town on Thursday.
The meeting primarily focused on the security situation, the short-term strategy for liberating areas under al Shabaab’s control, and the acceleration of robust mobilization efforts in Galmudug. It emphasized the active participation of residents in the country’s liberation endeavors.
President Mohamud stressed that the Federal Government has developed a comprehensive anti-terrorism policy, encompassing three crucial dimensions: the economy, ideological aspects, and frontline combat. He further highlighted that the initiation of the second phase of operations is imminent.
