In Dhusamareeb town on Thursday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor jointly presided over a Council of Ministers meeting at both the Federal and Galmudug State levels.

The meeting focused on various matters, including the security situation, the strategy to reclaim areas controlled by al Shabaab in the short term, and the need to actively involve Galmudug residents in the country’s liberation efforts.

President Mohamud emphasized that the Federal Government has devised a comprehensive policy to combat terrorism, which encompasses three key dimensions: the economy, ideological aspects, and frontline combat. He highlighted the imminent launch of the second phase of operations.

President Hassan Sheikh discussed the withdrawal of the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening and training the country’s armed forces. This initiative aims to ensure their ability to assume security responsibilities effectively after ATMIS leaves.

By June 30, ATMIS had already withdrawn 2,000 soldiers from Somalia and handed over six military bases to the Somali Security Forces (SSF) in accordance with resolutions from the United Nations Security Council.
