The Somali National Army announced on Friday that it had successfully eliminated eight members of the extremist group al-Shabab, including one of its leaders, in an airstrike carried out in the southwestern region of Bakool.
The Ministry of Defence reported that Isaaq Abdullahi, along with his seven bodyguards, was targeted and neutralized in a precise airstrike in Wajid District, where they had intended to execute attacks in the area.
“Isaaq, a notorious individual responsible for severe crimes, has been eradicated,” stated the ministry in a concise release confirming the death of the al-Shabab leader.
Somalia has been grappling with persistent terrorism for numerous years, largely due to the ongoing threat posed by al-Shabab, which has frequently targeted government forces. Despite these challenges, the Somali army, with the support of local militias and international partners, has launched a sustained offensive against al-Shabab since last year. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an “all-out war” against the terrorist group.
