Beledweyne (AX) – A suicide car bombing in the Bulaburde district of the Hiiraan region has resulted in the tragic loss of six lives and left over four individuals injured. This incident occurred shortly after a devastating attack by al Shabab in Beledweyne, the capital of the region, which claimed the lives of more than 30 innocent people.
According to eyewitnesses, the car carrying explosives exploded during a pursuit by security forces. The vehicle is said to have entered the district from its western side.
In another unfortunate event, a truck loaded with explosives targeted a security checkpoint in Beledweyne on Saturday, causing the deaths of over 30 people and leaving 50 others wounded.
The recent attack in the Bulaburde district took place just hours after the military successfully foiled two attempted car bombings on the outskirts of Dhusamareb, a central town in Somalia.
Dhusamareb currently serves as the administrative capital of the central state of Galmudug. It is hosting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who has relocated from Mogadishu to oversee the mobilization of local forces and boost the morale of the frontline soldiers.
Al Shabab has claimed responsibility for these heinous acts of violence.
The extremist group al-Shabaab has intensified its attacks ever since Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud, who was re-elected for a second term last year, declared a decisive “all-out war” against them. Consequently, the terrorist organization has suffered significant losses in terms of territorial control in central regions, including the coastal town of Haradhere, which had been under their dominance for over a decade.
